The upcoming airshow will offer a glimpse not only of current civilian and military aircraft, but also of some of the many cutting-edge innovations in the aerospace industry.
Here’s everything you need to know about what the airshow is, when and where it will take place, who some of the prominent exhibitors are and schedule and ticket information.
What is the Farnborough Airshow?
The Farnborough Airshow is a biennial event in the United Kingdom spanning several days that features a public airshow alongside a major trade exhibition for the national security and aerospace industries.
Generally, the first five days of the week-long event are dedicated just to trade while the weekend sees it opened up to the public.
One of the largest and most important airshows in the world, it first began as the Royal Air Force Airshow held in London from 1920 to 1937 before relocating to Radlett from 1946 to 1948 and later to Farnborough where it still takes place today.
The event, held only in even-numbered years, is organized by Farnborough International Limited and attracted more than 209,000 attendees in 2012 alone.

The 2018 Farnborough Airshow will take place from Monday, July 16 until Sunday, July 22.
Where is the Farnborough Airshow 2018?

Farnborough Airshow 2018 exhibitors
More than 1,500 exhibitors are expected to be present at the airshow while entrepreneurs, aerospace inventors and public officials from over 100 countries are also expected to be in attendance.
In addition to the usual array of planes and helicopters present at the event, a number of more unique futuristic exhibitions will also be on display.
Several innovations involving Aerospace 4.0 – a term coined to represent the rapid shift taking place in the modern aerospace industry – will be featured prominently. One exhibitor, Embracer X, will reportedly unveil their new Vertical Take-Off and Landing air taxi concept while new developments involving autonomous robots, hypersonic travel, virtual reality, electric propulsion and much more will also be displayed.
The first new commercial jet produced in Japan, the Mitsubishi Regional Jet, will be on display as will the PAL-V Liberty, the world’s first flying car production model.
Perhaps most notably, Richard Browning, the CEO of Gravity Industries, will show off his new Gravity Jet Suit at the airshow. Known as the real-life ‘Iron Man,’ Browning’s suit reportedly cost £250,000 to create and allows the user to produce 144kg of thrust that can be controlled with their limbs to guide them in new directions and shift their speed.
‘Alongside other leading industry pioneers, Gravity will be shining a light on a whole new era of aviation now made possible,’ he stated in May.
