Air Belgium
Air Belgium is a new Belgian Airline, If you are from the 80s you might have heard Air Belgium which existed as a leisure carrier from 1980s to the year 2000 and has been re-founded by new owners in 2016 with a envisioned start during 2018 to serve long-haul routes to Asia.
Destination
The first flight from Brussels to Hong Kong was planned to take off in October 2017, however this was postponed as the airline lacked an Air Operator certificate (AOC) which is necessary for an airline to operate flights. However Air Belgium has been awarded with an Air Operator certificate which means they can start selling tickets and flying. In December 2017, Air Belgium announced that the first flight should now take place in March 2018 from Brussels south Charleroi Airport.
Air Belgium plans to focus on long-haul flights rather than regional flights to Europe.
Base
The airline will be based at Brussels South Charleroi Airport (CRL) and it will offer low-fare tickets to Asian destinations.
Aircraft Type
Air Belgium will operate the old Airbus A340-300s that were originally from Finnair. The first A340-300 has been painted in Air Belgium livery and arrived at Brussels.
Seating Class
Air Belgium's A340s will have 303 seats divided into three classes.
Economy Class have 264 seats in a 2-4-2 configuration.
Economy class seats have a legroom of 78,7CM (31”) and seat width of 46CM (18”).
Premium Economy have 21 seats in a 2-3-2 configuration making it 7 seats per row.
Premium Economy Seats have a legroom of 91,4CM (36").
Business class Yes there will be Business class featuring a 2 Meter full-flat bed seat the seats will come with power outlets. There will be a total of 18 Business Class seats in a 2-2-2 Configuration.
Competition
Air Belgium will face competition as Cathay Pacific will start flying between Hong Kong and Brussels from March 25, 2018. The route will be served 4 times a week by Cathay's state-of-art Airbus A350-900, which is capable of carrying 280 passengers.
